Rodrigo Ventura (PhD) is a tenured Associate Professor of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, and a senior researcher of the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisbon), part of the Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems (LARSyS), where he coordinates the Space and Aeronautics thematic line. He is the coordinator of the Minor in Space Sciences and Technologies at IST, and the coordinator of an MBE proposal on Space Systems for Tecnico+. He is Adjoint Faculty of the International Space University (ISU), collaborating regularly with ISU in various academic activities. Broadly, his research is focused on the intersection between Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, with particular interest in human-robot interaction, mobile manipulation, biologically inspired cognitive architectures, and machine learning. This research is driven primarily by space robotics, including both orbital and planetary environments, having resulted in robotic experiments on the International Space Station (ISS) and in the participation on various analog space exploration missions.
